Our Syllabus

At The Playing Space we teach all aspects of speech and drama to children and young adults. Our classes start at age four and continue to eighteen.

Our students are grouped into four levels according to age: Introductory, Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced.

Broadly speaking, classes taught by The Playing Space cover three areas:

Technique using the voice and body to communicate meaning
Interpretation engaging emotionally and intellectually with words
Knowledge understanding some acting theory
understanding some of the background to classical and modern drama in English
understanding some of the principles that underpin English verse and prose

Students who attend classes at the Playing Space studio in Southgate take a LAMDA exam every year, in December. We also teach in-school LAMDA classes.
For more information about the LAMDA Graded Examinations system, have a look at our LAMDA exams page.

The North London Festival of Music, Drama and Dance takes place in April and May each year. The Playing Space enters students in the speech and drama component of the festival. Have a look at our North London Drama Festival page for details.
